Yiting Pan

Completed PhD Shanghai 1    Completed PhD Shanghai 2

This PhD examined the relationship between traditional building techniques and the building techniques introduced by Colonial traders in nineteenth and early 20th century Shanghai. Through studies of brick manufacturing, timber supply, carpentry tools, guilds, and concrete it showed how the interaction between the Western technologies and the Chinese ones created a new hybrid technology, blending aspects of both and unique to Shanghai. Dr Yiting Pan is now a lecturer at Soochow University (Department of Architecture)
